Workers protest non-payment of six months salaries in Adamawa state.

Workers under the auspices of Unpaid Civil Servants of Adamawa State, has protest over the non-payment of their six months salaries by the current governor of the state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved workers, the Chairman of the group, Faisal Baba, said they are here to table their letter of protest which contain all their grievances.

He noted that standing here are the representative of the above five thousand unpaid civil servants of Adamawa state, Baba said they are protesting in regard to the stoppage of their salaries by Gov. Fintiri that rode to power on the promise of putting smiles on faces of Adamawa workers only to assume office and handed over sack letters to about ten thousand civil servants engaged by the administration of Senator Jibrilla Bindow.

In his words he said “we are with regard to the stoppage of our salaries by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of the state.”

“He stopped our salaries for over six months now without any concrete or genuine reason to back his action. So that is why we are here, to let the Governor know about our plights.”

“We are now in critical and sympathizing condition, many of us are in devastating condition while others have died as the result of this hardship that was brought on us by His Excellency.”

“Therefore, we are here to let you know that you have never done us well,” an aggrieved Baba said.

He lamented that despite setting many committees to look into the matter which he claimed to have complied with nothing has been done by the Governor.

He noted that they have followed so many appropriate channels in order to expressed their grievances such as by written a letter of an appeal to the Governor directly through the office of the Secretary to the State Government and copied to the Chief of Staff, Head of Service, Judiciary, Nigeria Union of Labour and State House of Assembly unfortunately nothing has been done.

Furthermore, he said the State House of Assembly has equally passed a resolution on that directing the Governor to at least pay them even half of their salaries in order to ease their suffering but surprisingly, Rt. Hon. Fintiri as a democrat, who was once a lawmaker and a speaker of the State House of Assembly failed to complied with the resolution of the House.

So, that is why they felt it is not good in such a way because it was not only in Adamawa state that this such a things happened but it has happened in almost all the states of the Federation including Adamawa state. He cited example with Bauchi state that when the Governor came on board, he met similar issue on ground but he resolved it amicable. So also in Zamfara state, the Governor did not only paid the affected workers their salaries but he went as far as reinstating those that were sacked before he became a Governor.

Consequently, he said they are here today because they want to know why the governor has been defiant to their case of reinstating them.

Responding, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Crowther Seth, appreciate the workers for conducting themselves well. So he promised that their issue will be look into as soon as the Governor is back to the state.

He added that “definitely your issue has been treated, it is only waiting for the response of the governor and I am assuring you that it is going to be positive. But my advice to you is to continue to conduct yourself well,” he suggested.
