Fact-check: There’s no sex scandal at Adamawa state school of Nursing and Midwifery.
On Tuesday, news broke out on social media and some online newspapers that Mrs Lami Aminu led the management of Adamawa state school of Nursing and Midwifery condoling sex scandal, examination malpractice, and admission racketeering and acted in violation of the trade union acts.
The online medium claims the Provost, Mrs Lami Aminu, couldn’t have held an executive position at the union level and be a Provost of the health college.
“it quoted a source at the college to have confided that a close aide of the Provost is involved in sex escapade with a female student of the college and same Kadama was involved in examination malpractice.
The medium did not provide the Provost and Mr. kadama an opportunity to respond to the allegations against them.
THE FINDER has obtained details of the report on which the online medium based their account and has investigated the claims against Mrs Lami Aminu and kadama Birgamus.
We fact-checked some of the claims made by the medium, and below are our findings:
ALLEGATION ONE: Kadama was not disciplined by the management
The facts do not support that claim. A reporter for this newspaper extensively reported that event, when a disciplinary committee was set up against one Mr Kadama Birgamus by the Lami led management of the college for coercing a female student into a romantic relationship.
The investigative committee led by the deputy provost of the college could not submit its report due to elapsing of the time frame giving to it; however, this medium made efforts to reach out to the lady at the centre of the sex scandal allegation, and she denied ever been harassed into a relationship with the lecturer.
She entered into a consensual relationship with Mr. kadama Brigamus based on the marriage promise he made to her and later discovered that he was seeing another lady. She was devastated by the action of Kadama, and she, however, denied being harras for sex as reported by the online medium.
Hear her “this man did not engage me for sex for marks or admission as he only promised to marry me and I later discovered that he is going out with someone I know and it hurts me a lot, but for you to suggest that he forced me to friending him is not correct. She said.
According to information available to this medium, Mr. kadama Brigamus is still on suspension by the management of the college; the allegation that the Provost shields kadama from punishment is false.
ALLEGATION TWO: That trade union act forbids Mrs Lami Aminu to hold dual positions as union executive and Provost of a college.
This claim is also untrue.
THE FINDER has obtained the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and midwives (NANNW) constitution; no statute forbids any members of the union executive from holding appointments.
The section quoted by the online medium does not support its claims that Mrs Lami Aminu acted in contravention of the trade union act. Also, there is no place in the NANNW constitution that outlaw executive officer from receiving an appointment.
ALLEGATION 3: That kadama collects money for admission.
THE FINDER checks show that this is not entirely correct. Our investigations indicate that Mr Kadama was involved in a relationship with a female student of the college. Still, no evidence linking him to collecting money for admission as reported by the medium; the committee set up by the management of the college to probe allegations against kadama has denied receiving any complaint against him for collecting money for admission.
We are unable to find any evidence that Mrs Lami has condone any sexual harras of a student from Lecturers of the college or collecting bribes for admission.
While some insiders at the college told this medium that a staff of the hospital management board in Yola who is on secondment to the college was the brain behind the campaign of calumny against the Provost as he is till bitter that Mrs Lami triumph over him in the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and midwives (NANNW) union election and for that reason, he vowed to make the college ungovernable for her.
