Fact check: Aishatu Binani amplifies false claim that INEC national commisioner visit Fintiri.
Aishatu Binani, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Adamawa state, falsely claimed that two INEC commissioners had previously visited Fintiri, prompting Hudu, the rogue suspended commissioner, to declare her the illegally elected governor of Adamawa state. Ishaku Abbo also spread some of the misinformation, reaching thousands of people.
Here’s a look at some of Aishatu Binani’s claims.
An interview surfaced in which Binani denied offering two billion naira to the rogue resident electoral commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari, in order to influence the outcome of the Adamawa polls. In the same press statement, Binani accused two INEC national commissioners of visiting Fintiri, which resulted in Hudu illegally declaring her, and she then rushed to give an already prepared speech.”
Fact first: There was no evidence of an INEC national commissioner visiting Fintiri; it was Ame Hudu who was accused of collecting 2 billion naira from Binani by a man in a viral video who identified himself as a deputy director with the Nigeria secret police, who claimed he collected about 2 billion naira to deliver to Hudu in order to influence the outcome of the polls in Adamawa.
Ishaku Abbo and Binani fought on multiple occasions to justify the acts of the renegade REC and the alleged secret police in the viral video in which they admitted that N 2 billion was promised to rig Adamawa polls.
The two INEC national commissioners and returning officers were in their hotel room on Sunday morning before Hudu went ahead to carry out a preplanned deal of illegally announcing Binani winner; they were not in a government house or collecting 1.5 billion naira from Fintiri; rather, it was Binani who was accused of giving 2 billion naira by a man in a viral video.
According to our findings, ten local government results were pending before the rogue REC illegally declared Binani the winner, despite the fact that the commission is required by federal law to investigate any illegal proclamation.
Conclusion: Binani’s assertion that two INEC commissioners visited Fintiri and that the returning official could not be found and that warrant Hudu to illegally announce her winner, are unfounded.
