Fintiri’s appointment of a centrist politician as SSG was a first in the Adamawa’s history.

No one can dispute Fintiri’s place in history or his many achievements. The nomination of a prominent politician to the position of Adamawa state secretary is one example of these successes. To put it mildly, Fintiri now has a Guinness World Record thanks to his action.

Since the return of democracy in 1999, no governor in Adamawa has appointed a core and refined politician as SSG. However, today, Governor Fintiri took the bull by the horn and appointed Awwal Tukur in place of Bashir Ahmad.

We at The Finder Newspaper have been advocating for this appointment since 2021, when we learned of Tukur’s capability as a member of the green chamber and a staunch PDP supporter. In all the years I’ve known him, Tukur has remained loyal to the same political party.

He is a politician who is both savvy and approachable. Tukur is a great listener and rarely talks more than he listens, whether on the phone or in person. Tukur’s calmness is unparalleled; he never seems to get worked up. That should be the staff member in charge of the SSG’s office Adamawa State .

The SSG’s responsibilities don’t end with policy making for the state government; he or she must also be able to win over the political establishment and influence voters in favour of his employer.

The term “technocrat” is no longer hip when referring to the current SSG. One must be a politician before being elected; it would be silly to cross one’s arms and hope for an appointment after the fact.

Because of this, a lot of governors don’t get re-elected. With Awwal Tukur in place, I expect the governor to feel less political pressure, as Tukur will be able to visit districts where the governor has other commitments.
