Tribunal: INEC, others object to Rogue Hudu Yunusa testifying for the APC.
On Sunday, the All Progressive Congress and its governorship candidate in Adamawa, Aisahtu Dahiru Binani, called their one of their subpoenaed witness in the governorship Election Petition court.
Binani and the APC have filed a case disputing the outcome of the governorship election, which resulted in Fintiri being elected governor of Adamawa State.
At the resumed hearing, counsel for the APC informed the court that the petitioners intend to bring one of their subpoenaed witnesses, an Independent National Electoral Commission staff member.
However, counsel for the respondents in the case, namely INEC, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and the People Democratic Party, objected to the witness testifying.
Maikasua, SAN, counsel to INEC, stood to object to the witness’s hearing as soon as he reached the witness box and barely before he could take his oath.
He informed the court that the rogue REC who unjustly declared Binani the winner is no longer an INEC employee as a result of his illegal act of proclaiming a candidate the winner in the middle of an election.
Similarly, Fintiri’s lawyer, Damian Dodo, SAN, and the PDP’s lawyer, Mahmud, SAN, agreed and rejected the petitioners’ move.
Justice Theodora Obi Uloho, the chairman of the three-member GEPT panel, deferred the hearing until tomorrow for a ruling.
However, INEC claimed that the witness could not testify as an INEC employee because he was not named as a star witness by the petitioner.
According to The Finder, rogue REC Hudu Yunusa postponed collation till April 16, 2023, only to sneak into the collation centre and fraudulently declare the APC winner’s candidature in the middle of collation, leaving 10 local government results out of collation.
