2024 Ondo Poll Not To Settle Scores, Says Aiyedatiwa
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State believes the November 16 governorship election should not be used to settle political scores.
The governor mentioned this in his new year statewide broadcast to the people of the state on Monday, adding the warning became necessary because political activities will take centre stage this year.
He warned political actors to avoid violent behaviour that could jeopardise Ondo’s peace and tranquillity ahead of the governorship election.
“As we all know, this year is also our governorship election.” Political activities are expected to gain significance as we approach the election.
“However, I ask all political parties, aspirants, and supporters to refrain from engaging in aggressive behaviour that threatens the peace and tranquillity of our state.” They must strictly adhere to the standards set forth by the electoral umpire.
“The governorship race in Ondo should be a contest of ideas and options, not a chance to settle political scores or an excuse for calumny,” he stated.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also urged the people of the state to increase their prayers for the state’s peace and development.
He also used his show to pay tribute to his former employer and predecessor in office, Rotimi Akeredolu, who died on December 27 of “complications from chronic prostate cancer.”
Aiyedatiwa stated of Akeredolu, “he left an indelible stamp on the annals of time, and his contributions to the growth of our state, and indeed Nigeria, are inscribed in history.”
“As promised, we would not only provide a proper state funeral for our late former governor, but we will also immortalise his name.” This is in addition to our efforts to complete all of the developmental initiatives he initiated as Governor of Ondo State.”
The governor committed to “make the welfare of workers a major concern.” In addition, we will prioritise human capital development, environmental sustainability, rural development, and the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects.”
