Passport Application Automation Will Begin on January 8—Minister
According to Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, automation of the passport application process will commence on January 8, 2024, and Nigerians will be able to apply and finish their passport application process online without human touch.
“We are ready to go live,” Tunji-Ojo stated Monday in Abuja during an assessment of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) facilities alongside the Service’s Comptroller General (CG), Wura-Ola Adepoju.
“We are beginning training, and by January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to enjoy a wonderful feeling and a lovely experience based on Mr. President’s newfound hope.”
“We have been able to decrease human touch in passport acquisition to a bare minimum,” the minister said, adding that the new initiative will improve the country’s security architecture as well as Nigerians’ comfort and convenience.
Tunji-Ojo stated that the government aims to put an end to the practice of people bringing bogus documents to apply for passports, even as he announced that the service now has document verification officers in all local government areas across the country to review passport applications.
