EFCC Declares Emefiele’s Wife, Three Others Wanted
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has proclaimed Margaret Emefiele, the wife of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, wanted for alleged financial crimes.
According to the EFCC, Mrs. Emefiele, Eric Odoh, Anita Omoile, and Jonathan Omoile are wanted for allegedly “conspiring with the former CBN governor to covert huge sums of money belonging to the federal government and committing felony to wit: obtaining money by false pretences and stealing contrary to and punishable under Sections 411, 287, and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
In a mugshot shared by the anti-graft agency on Friday night, the EFCC urged to anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact its local command or police station.
Margaret, Anita, and Jonathan were identified as Delta State residents, while Odoh is believed to be from Benue State.
The EFCC identified Jonathan as the CEO of Exact Quote BDC Limited, and Anita as the CEO of Deepblue Energy Services Ltd. and Lipam Investment Services Ltd.
Emefiele was removed from office as CBN governor by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, and he was later detained by the Department of State Services. The federal government is currently prosecuting him on charges that border on financial crimes.
On January 18, the Federal Government modified the criminal accusations filed against the former Central Bank of Nigeria governor.
They expanded the charges from six to twenty counts. In the amendment, Emefiele was accused of criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Emefiele pled not guilty to the initial six-count allegation after being arraigned on November 18, 2023.
On November 22, 2023, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court granted him N300 million bail.
