State, LG Retirees Receive More Than N5.2bn in Overdue Gratuities from Gombe Government

The backlogs of state and local government retiree gratuities were settled with 5.291 billion naira by the Gombe State Government.

This was said by Commissioner Mjinyawa Ardo Tilde of the Ministry of Information and Culture following the 36th State Executive Council Meeting, which was chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Honourable Muhammad Gambo Magaji, the commissioner of finance, announced that the council had approved 2.291 million naira in retiree gratuities for the state government and 3 billion naira for the local government.

His Excellency the Governor has paid down the gratuity backlog and reduced it since he took office four and a half years ago.

Retirees who left their jobs without receiving their gratuities have been reimbursed for five times now, he said.

Additionally, the commissioner announced that 332 million Naira had been authorised to compensate Bauchi Motor Park and Dukku Motor Park owners for their properties. This will enable the development of a state secretariat that is up to date and the utilisation of the incumbent administration’s Mega Motor Park.

Buckham Engineering was compensated with 358 million Naira by the Council for properties constructed on land designated for an international market along Yemi Osinbajo Road, according to the Commissioner. This property is part of the Judiciary and House of Assembly Complex project.

Local governments pay 85% of the gratuity for local government retirees, while the state government contributes 15%, according to Abdulkadir Mohammed Malle, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development. From 2016 until 2022, certain LGAs will incur payment delays.

Important projects in his ministry were approved in eleven LGAs, he said.

Solar street lights, palaces, feeder roods, and LGA secretariats are all part of the renovation project. According to Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, the Commissioner of Works, the State Executive Council allocated N478,679,970 to assess the road development from Kuri, Lambam, Dasa to Talasse.

Following the discovery of the filter underwater over the whole 17-kilometer stretch, the Commissioner has mandated inspections of all roads being constructed.

A five-year nutrition policy to alleviate hunger, poverty, and malnutrition in Gombe State, with a focus on children, was also approved by the council (2024–2027).

In collaboration with the Ministries of Health, Education, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry, the council set aside 2 billion naira to carry out the policy’s implementation.
