CDS Musa Issues Probe Order Following Tragic Deaths of 12 Soldiers, Four Senior Officers in Delta
Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff, has mandated an investigation into the senseless deaths of twelve troops and four senior officers in Delta State.
It has been reported that the military men who were killed on Thursday, March 14, responded to a distress call following the communal unrest in the Okuama and Okoloba towns in Delta State.
In a statement released on Saturday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, confirmed the incident. He said that while troops of the 181 Amphibious Battalion were on a peace mission in the Bomadi Local Government Area of the state, members of the community surrounded the victims.
In response to a distress call following the communal issue in Delta State, which had broken out between the Okuama and Okoloba villages, “the sad tragedy occurred,” according to the statement.
“Twelve soldiers, including the CO, two majors, and a captain, were killed when the reinforcement team under his leadership was ambushed.”
The incident has been reported to the Delta State Government, according to the defence spokesman. He added that the CDS has also ordered the criminals to be identified.
He asserts that individuals have been apprehended in relation to the occurrence.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the military’s dedication to its mission of ensuring national security across the nation.
The urgent inquiry and arrest of individuals engaged in the horrific act have been directed by General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). The Delta State Government has been notified of the incident.
“Notwithstanding this, the military is resolute in its mission to keep the peace and secure the nation. We have taken steps to discover the reason behind the attack and made a few arrests so far.
