Form Valued at ₦50 million as APC Selects Ondo Governor Candidate on April 25
To prepare for the gubernatorial election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its timeline and programme of events leading up to the nomination of a candidate on April 25, 2024.
Party National Organising Secretary Sulaimon Argungu put his signature on the APC schedule that was released late Monday.
The official start date of the sale of nominations, interest statements, and delegate forms for candidates is set for April 3, 2024, with the primary election scheduled for April 25, 2024, as per the party’s announcement.
Just as in Edo State’s governorship primary, when Monday Okpebholo was chosen as the party’s candidate, the APC set the price for the nomination forms at N40 million and the expression of interest at N10 million for Ondo.
While the nomination form is free, the party stated that female aspirants and those living with impairments are required to pay for expressions of interest.
With a 50% discount on Nomination Forms, “youths from 25 to 40 years old are to acquire Expression of Interest forms,” the APC announced.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a former deputy governor of Ondo who took over for the late Rotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023, is among the leading candidates for the APC ticket in Ondo. The party’s ticket is also sought for by Wale Akinterinwa, the state’s former commissioner for finance, and Jimoh Ibrahim, a senator from Ondo South.
In eight states, including Ondo and Edo, the governorship elections take place outside of the traditional election season as a result of ongoing litigation and judicial decisions. Anambra, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, and Osun are the remaining states.
The two states holding governorship elections this year have already seen their political gladiators square off. It is anticipated that all 19 political parties will send a candidate to the polls, but much like in years past, there will only be two or, at most, three contenders.
