Govt Officials Profiting From South-East Insecurity, I’ll Restore Peace If Freed — Nnamdi Kanu
Devastated Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu claims that certain government officials are benefiting from the widespread insecurity in the South-East geopolitical zone.
On Tuesday, following Justice Binta Nyako’s denial of bail in the Federal High Court Abuja, Kanu made this information public.
Intervening after the court hearings, the IPOB leader stated that the restoration of peace in the South-East will occur upon his release from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Some government officials may be involved, in my opinion. This uncertainty is generating revenue for them. The situation will be resolved in two minutes if Nnamdi Kanu is outdoors, Kanu said reporters.
“If somebody is causing violence in the South-East under the guise of IPOB, please allow me to exit this absurd situation. In only two minutes, I promise you, and the South-East will be peaceful again.”
Following his extradition in June 2021 and his subsequent detention by the DSS on allegations that touch on treasonable felony, the IPOB leader earlier informed the court that he is being mistreated by the secret police and that there is a plot to have him killed while in captivity.
One of the country’s six geopolitical zones, the South-East, has been the target of horrific assaults in the past three years. The so-called “unknown gunmen” have taken pleasure in the region’s desecration, murdering hundreds of security personnel and setting fire to police stations and military bases.
Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, and Enugu’s economy have taken a hit in the three years following the dreaded Monday sit-at-home declaration by secessionist agitators.
Travellers and inhabitants are living in constant terror as violent non-state actors cause chaos in the states, while officials in the zone strive for a political solution to the worsening situation.
