Benue APC Crisis: Tiv Leaders Reconcile Gov Alia, SGF Akume
Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue State, and George Akume, secretary to the federal government, have reached an agreement thanks to the Tiv Traditional Council, presided over by Tor Tiv Prof. James Ayatse.
The former political partners, who had been embroiled in a chilly struggle over control of the North Central State, embraced one other after the private meeting, much to the delight of their fans.
The confrontation escalated to a boiling point when the governor recently inaugurated a factional All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Council, prompting the police to seize control of the APC State Secretariat in an effort to quell the unrest.
The paramount king and council of the Tiv people were so concerned about the escalating conflict that they summoned the two men to Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko to settle their disputes.
Peace has returned between the two presidents, Ayatse said journalists, and he pushed everyone to “live the talk” when it came to the state’s prosperity.
