PDP advises Tinubu to reevaluate his economic team.
On Thursday, the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Executive Committee urged President Bola Tinubu to quickly reorganise his economic team to save the country’s economy.
During the 98th NEC meeting in Abuja, the PDP issued a communiqué demanding that President Tinubu restructure his economic team with “proven integrity, competence, lack of bias, and vested interest” to help reposition the economy.
In addition, the National Economic Council (NEC) demands that the federal government examine all programmes and policies that are stifling the economy and impacting people’s daily lives in a suffocating way. These include, but are not limited to, the unchecked rise in fuel prices, the increase in the power tariff, the implementation of unfavourable fiscal policies, and higher taxes.
“NEC is deeply troubled by the APC administration’s insensitive policies, which have resulted in a worsening of security, severe economic hardship, rising unemployment, skyrocketing food and other essential commodity prices, and widespread misery and despair throughout the country,” the statement read, as signed by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary.
In addition, the NEC urged the president to call a special meeting of the National Security Council immediately so that they may discuss the alarming state of national security and the detrimental effects it is having on the country.
“NEC is deeply concerned by the recent wave of violent and terrorist attacks, which has included more senseless murders, the kidnapping of numerous innocent Nigerians, and the rampaging across different communities across the nation.
The National Emergency Committee (NEC) strongly denounces the APC government’s callousness, lack of concern, incompetence, and haughtiness in its handling of the Nigerian people’s welfare.
“NEC also denounces the rising authoritarianism and trends towards a one-party state that pose a threat to our nation’s peaceful coexistence, stability, and business survival, along with the advancement of democracy and sound governance,” the statement continued.
In contrast, the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) issued a call to all opposition party organs, saying, “Set aside every personal or group interest and work together in the overarching endeavour to reposition and return the PDP to power at the centre in the benefit of the Nigerian people.”
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) reminds all party members that they must remain united in their pursuit of the PDP’s victory—a success that will benefit Nigerians and ensure the viability of our democracy,” the statement continued.
The federal government, sub-nationals, and the business sector make up the economic advisory council that Tinubu just established.
This happened at a time when the cost of living problem was getting even worse due to factors such as the declining value of the naira, increasing inflation, and other economic headwinds.
Notable individuals from the private sector who were included on the list include Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the Dangote Group, and Mr. Tony Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa.
