Representatives summon Lokpobiri, Ekpo, Kyari Due to Petrol Scarcity
Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved a resolution inviting Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), and Ekperikpe Ekpo, his counterpart for the gas sector, to talk about the current gasoline shortage facing the country.
Over the national petrol shortages, the green chamber also summoned Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
This followed a resolution of urgent national urgency brought forward by House member Umar Ajilo, who expressed worries about the ongoing lines at gas stations across the country.
The Ministers and the NNPCL CEO are expected to explain the real cause of the shortage and the steps done to end it to the House. Date of the engagement is not specified.
Last week, new lineups emerged across the nation and continued into the current week as stranded drivers paid as much as N800 per litre for petrol, while illicit marketers made up to N1,500 per litre.
The House has, meantime, requested that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) postpone the new tariff’s implementation.
Following the acceptance of a motion of urgent public significance by member Kama Nkemkanma, the lower legislative chamber also approved the resolution during plenary session on Tuesday.
