“NASS Should Amend the Constitution and Define the Role of the Deputy Governor,” – Agboola.
The National Assembly should change the Constitution to specify the responsibilities of a deputy governor, according to Agboola Ajayi, a leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Ajayi, the PDP governorship candidate for the later-scheduled Ondo election, changing the nation’s laws will help to resolve problems stemming from the positions of deputy governors, sometimes referred to as “spare tyres.”
Admitting that the legislation restricts the deputy governor, he said the National Assembly should do something about that, spell it out and define the constitutional role for the office of the governor and the vice presidential office.”
That is the office; your principle sets your responsibilities and you can only operate at his discretion. It is okay if he feels that he does not want to play with you. It is a joint ticket, thus I believe we should change that and give them a constitutional position to make them more relevant.
Nigerian politics has seen brawls between governors and their deputies ever since democracy was restored to the nation in 1999.
Governor-deputy relationships have sometimes taken on icy aspects.
Many deputies are at odds with their leaders, who frequently charge them with usurpation. Even before their terms are out, governors replace some deputies.
Relationships have largely broken down when some deputy governors have tried to succeed their bosses. The House of Assembly in Edo State impeached Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor, in the most recent instance.
That action marked the conclusion of a protracted struggle between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki, his mentor, over the former’s intention to run for governor of the state.

‘Do Something Different’
But should Agboola be elected governor of Ondo, he pledges to completely restructure the relationship between governors and their deputies.
“I will act differently if I am elected governor of Ondo State. Keep my deputy governor well occupied. Let people view him as an official of the government, said the former
There are occasional crises between the governor and deputy everywhere, and we have to deal with it.
Putting aside worries about usurpation, he declared, “If I am a governor, I will strengthen that office and make it very effective.”
