Kano Emirate Crisis: Police Clear Up Confusion About Emir’s Jummah Prayers
According to official Kano State Police Command reports, Emir Alhaji Aminu Bayero is not leading Jummah prayers at the Kofar Kudu Central Mosque.
Residents were reassured by a statement issued on Friday that Emir Bayero will instead attend his prayers at the Nasarawa Palace mosque.
“All necessary security arrangements have been made for Alhaji Aminu Bayero to observe his Jummah Prayers in the Mosque where he lives at the Nasarawa Palace,” said Commissioner of Police CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel. He also added that the police are prepared to provide security at the Nasarawa Palace for Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, who is expected to observe his prayers there.
Assuring the public, CP Gumel said, “Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore the false reports and misinformation circulating on social media and to go about their activities without fear of molestation or intimidation.”
He further reassured locals that the police and other state security services are dedicated to maintaining a calm atmosphere for the congressional prayers on Friday.
Reiterating these principles and pleading with the people to keep calm and carry on with their regular routines without worrying about their safety was SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer.
A resolute pledge from the police to offer the required security for the safety and orderly performance of religious activities in the state closed the statement.
