Flood Cuts Off Kano-Maiduguri Highway, Gov Mohammed Seeks FG’s Intervention
The federal highway between Kano and Maiduguri, in particular the section between the villages of Malori and Guskuri in Bauchi State’s Katagum Local Government Area, has taken a major beating from the torrential rains.
A huge crater now sits in the centre of the road, thanks to the flood, and drivers have little choice but to seek out alternate routes.
During his inspection, Governor Bala Muhammad of Bauchi State emphasised the road’s importance as a vital connection between the Northwest and Northeast areas of Nigeria.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Governor Muhammad implored the federal government to immediately fix the damaged road so that citizens can more easily carry products and services.
The twin carriageways have been entirely eroded off this key highway, the Northeast highway. The federal government is being asked to lend a hand. He went on to say that the Controller of Works would be the one to notify Abuja about the problem.
“The last time it rained, we took action to install remedial or permanent measures; this time, they won’t be able to handle the situation.”
This year, Bauchi State has experienced heavy floods, which has devastated numerous local government areas.
Kano-Maiduguri Highway Cut Off by Flood, Governor Mohammed Urges Federal Government’s Assistance
The federal highway connecting Kano to Maiduguri has been significantly affected by a heavy downpour, specifically between the Malori and Guskuri villages in the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The flood has caused a significant disruption to the road, resulting in motorists having to seek alternative routes.
During a visit to assess the damage, the Bauchi State Governor Bala Muhammad emphasised the importance of the road as a vital connection between Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions.
In a press briefing on Thursday, Governor Muhammad emphasised the need for the Federal Government to promptly address the road damage. This would greatly improve the transportation of goods and services, ultimately benefiting the citizens.
This is a significant highway, known as the Northeast highway, and the dual carriageways have been completely washed away. We urge the federal government to provide assistance. “We will bring this issue to the attention of Abuja through the Controller of Works,” he said.
If they fail to resolve the issue, we will be compelled to take necessary steps to implement corrective or lasting solutions, just like we did in the previous wet season.
This year, Bauchi State has experienced severe flooding, causing extensive damage in numerous local government areas.
