Killers of humanitarian workers must be apprehended -Gov. Alia.
During a Sunday visit with Chris Terfa-Ikpu’s family, Rev. Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue State, demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for the humanitarian worker’s death.
Several assailants tracked Terfa-Ikpu to his office building on Nyesom Wike Road, Makurdi, on Friday night.
In a statement released by Kula Tersoo, the chief press secretary to the governor, the governor and several high-ranking government officials paid a visit to the deceased’s family following the funeral. The governor conveyed his profound sadness over the loss and offered his condolences to the deceased’s loved ones and colleagues.
According to the statement, the governor remembered the deceased’s important work in human rights and health, especially his advocacy for marginalised communities in the HIV/AIDS crisis.
“The Governor has expressed his gratitude for the swift response from Bar Daniel Ezeala and his colleagues, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of E Division, as they continue to investigate the matter in order to find out more information and determine who is responsible.
Despite the fact that he was informed that a suspect had been apprehended and was assisting the authorities.
Furthermore, the governor has ordered the state security services to “hunt and ensure the perpetrators and anyone connected to the dastardly act is apprehended and brought to book,” according to the statement.
Alia reassured the people that the state administration is devoted to the expeditious administration of justice.
Tragically, Terfa-Ikpu was shot to death while serving as the head of two important youth development initiatives: Concerned Youth for Development Initiative (CYDI) and the National Key Population Health and Rights Network (NKPHRN).
