Tinubu endorses 300% salary rise for judicial officers.

Senator Basheer Lado, the President’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, made the announcement in an Abuja statement on Tuesday.

Recall that in March, Present Tinubu submitted to the House of Representatives for consideration a bill headed ‘A Bill for an Act to dictate the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in Nigeria and for connected subjects’, which sought to revise judicial officer wages.

In June, the National Assembly adopted a plan to enhance court officers’ salaries by 300 percent at both the federal and state levels, according to Vanguard.

According to Lado, “This extraordinary move underscores Mr. President’s absolute prioritisation of the welfare of Nigerian workers above all else, just as he did when he recently paused an ongoing Federal Executive Council meeting to assent to the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.”

The revised legislation “prescribes salaries, allowances, etc., for Judicial Officers to reflect the changing realities and consequently amend the provisions of the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.), Act, No. 6, 2002 (as amended) to delete the provisions relating to Judicial Office Holders.”

We set the salaries, allowances, and other benefits for court officers.

“The amendment of the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No. 6, 2002 (as amended), which gets rid of parts of the act that apply to people who hold judicial positions.”

Lado lauded the president’s signing of the bill as a watershed moment in Nigerian labour history, demonstrating his unshakeable commitment to improving working conditions.

“In a demonstration of his visionary leadership and deep compassion for the Nigerian people, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON has once again affirmed his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the nation’s workforce by assenting to the revised Salaries and Allowances for Judicial Office Holders,” his statement read.

“This landmark decision underscores Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to ensure that every salary earner in Nigeria, particularly those in critical and important roles, receives the recognition and recompense they deserve.

“By prioritising our judicial officers’ financial well-being, Mr. President not only strengthens the integrity of our justice system, but also establishes a new standard for leadership that truly honours the hard work and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers.

“Under President Tinubu’s administration, the well-being of our workers has become a cornerstone of national progress.

“His visionary policies continue to uplift the lives of millions, upholding the dignity of labour and justly rewarding those who serve our nation.”

“This assent demonstrates Mr. President’s relentless efforts to create a more affluent and equitable Nigeria, where every worker is empowered to contribute to the country’s greatness.

“As we look to the future with hope and determination, Mr. President remains steadfast in his mission to champion initiatives that deliver fair compensation, improved working conditions, and a brighter future for all Nigerians.”

Lado congratulated Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, and the 10th National Assembly for their roles in enacting the measure, which the President has signed, and urged judicial office bearers to step up their efforts to provide prompt justice.

He went on: “The judiciary continues to be the hope of the common man, and we hope that Nigerians seeking justice get it irrespective of their status in life.”
