Fubara Receives PDP BoT Members In Rivers, Vows To Resolve Crisis
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), BoT members on Tuesday, addressing months of speculation surrounding his party affiliation.
The delegation consisted of BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Chairman Ahmed Makarfi, elder statesman Olabode George, and Senator Abdul Ningi.
Despite the pressure on Governor Fubara to switch parties to the APC, his supporters argue that his chances of winning a second term in office would be low if he remains in his current party.
The governor has, however, chosen not to disclose his next course of action.
The delegation stated that their visit to Rivers State was aimed at fostering peace and reinforcing existing alliances.
Nevertheless, during the meeting with the leadership and members of the PDP Board of Trustees at the government house in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara expressed uncertainty about his affiliation with the party.
Nevertheless, he expressed that the visit from the BoT has provided him with a sense of reassurance regarding his ongoing membership status.
So far, the important thing this afternoon is that we are still members of the party and that the party owners have paid us a visit.
“So, for those individuals outside who are spreading various rumours and misinformation, this visit will finally put an end to that and show the world that we are still loyal members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he stated.
The chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara expressed concern during his conversation with the governor about the party’s apprehension of losing Rivers State to formidable opposition members. This situation is seen as a significant challenge to the future of the nation.
“We were concerned, sir, when we heard or read various discussions and opinions that suggested the possibility of the party losing Rivers State if we are not cautious,” he said. Without retaining Rivers State, Nigeria’s future would be irreparably damaged,” he emphasised.
We want to avoid a recurrence of the events that took place in 2015 and 2023. The individuals you observe here exhibit a strong sense of impartiality. Nevertheless, as the moral compass of the party, we must remain committed to upholding the principles of justice. And whatever actions you take, as long as they adhere to the rule of law, will always be considered correct. Regardless of the time it takes, the result will always be accurate.
Wabara, the governor has shown great concern for the PDP, which is why he has been very understanding of the party leadership’s lack of action during the crisis.
I’d rather not provide a description. Otherwise, as a governor, we have former governors here, I question whether they would have taken as much as you have. So, on behalf of this party, I want to express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering dedication, your insightful contributions, and your continued support as a valued member of our party.
“Rest assured that the Board of Trustees, led by me and a group of dedicated Nigerians, will handle the matter in accordance with the constitution,” he assures.
