PDP Crisis: Members should refrain from disparaging PDP, Damagum warns
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) acting national leader, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, has acknowledged that he is under pressure and forewarned that his remarks may not be pleasant.
Speaking on Wednesday at the party’s discipline and reconciliation committees’ inauguration in Abuja, Damagum also issued a warning to members to refrain from disparaging the party.
“I have an obligation to this party to maintain its security and stability,” he declared. I plan to do all within my power to keep the party stable. However, I have to say that I have had enough.
“I’ve avoided speaking because I know so many things.” I know it won’t be fun when I speak, but that’s the price of being in a leadership position. I’m willing to put up with more criticism.
“To my critics, I assure you that you will witness more.” I promise not to shirk my duties. I’ll act lawfully as required by the constitution.
You can try to undermine me, but just keep in mind that we have NEC while you do so. I won’t be deterred.
“Anytime our members go on television saying that the party is dying, not mindful of the fact that the party has remained a force to reckon with in this country,” Damagum said he always feels “sad.” Despite going through multiple crises, we are still standing today.
“Honestly, as a committed member of this party, you should always speak positively of your party. I don’t know, maybe some people want the party to die.”
