‘Hard Decisions for Development’, Tinubu Speaks On Petrol Price Hike

Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), more commonly known as fuel, has seen a price increase, and President Bola Tinubu has spoken out about it.

Speaking to Nigerians in China on Friday, Tinubu explained that his administration’s plan to put Nigeria on the road to economic prosperity includes raising the price of petrol and other measures.

We are taking really daring and unusual decisions as a nation as we undergo reforms in Nigeria. Tinubu said, “You might have been hearing from home in the last few days about fuel prices,” according to presidential spokeswoman Ajuri Ngelale.

“What is the crucial element in achieving our goals if we are unable to make difficult choices that will pave the way for a blessed and talented country?”

“Real progress will be more difficult to attain and more costly the more you insist on having everything for free.”

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, in response to extremely lengthy lines at gas stations, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) increased the price of gasoline at the pump to N855 nationwide.

The scenario was strongly denounced by numerous Nigerians and NGOs, who urged the Federal Government to reconsider the decision.

It comes at a time when Nigerians are already struggling due to rising inflation and the shortage of petrol.

Tinubu justified the decision during the Beijing summit by arguing that difficult choices are essential for economic growth.

“Can we, however, prevent it? Do you think we can build roads as good as the ones you have here? Electricity, both in quantity and quality, remains constant. Both their first-rate educational system and their reliable water supply are on full display. We claim we want to pass a banner down to the next generation unsoiled, yet here we are.

A lot of you are really gifted, and you all speak Mandarin like a native speaker. The way our people feel will be influenced by your remarks and donations back home.

Despite the fact that reaching a national consensus on topics isn’t always easy, the president has said that he is prepared to make tough decisions in order to advance the country.

In addition, Tinubu stated his intention to build an infrastructure in Nigeria similar to that of China.

“One economic action leads to another, and it is up to you to build our nation.” I am fully dedicated to fulfilling my role as the leader. The group is laser-focussed, and my staff is second to none,” he remarked.
