Tinubu approves N108 billion for states to tackle flood, erosion.

President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned N108 billion for the 36 states of the federation to address flooding and other natural catastrophes.

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced this on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, the country’s capital.

Upon receiving House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, the Vice President described the situation in Maiduguri as a “national calamity.”

“The President has shown his zeal, willingness, and commitment to partner with the states towards addressing these issues,” says Shettima.

“Recently, he approved the release of N3 billion to each state of the federation to address some of these challenges so that all parts of the federation should have buy-in and belonging.”

Shettima praised the Speaker for his “stellar leadership in the National Assembly,” noting that despite approximately 70% of the members being newly sworn-in, the Speaker has maintained the flag.

“There is a lot of stability in the House of Representatives, and we must thank you for giving that leadership. We wish you well, and Insha Allah, you are one of the pillars of our democratic journey.

“A harmonious relationship between the government, legislature, and judiciary is critical to sustaining democracy in Nigeria. Once again, on behalf of the President, the administration, and the people of Borno, I express my heartfelt gratitude for your empathy and support.”

Tajudeen, on his part, expressed condolences to Shettima, Tinubu, the government, and the people of Borno State, reassuring them that the National Assembly will support the devastated community.

“We in the National Assembly are looking into what kind of assistance we will provide to those affected. We are deeply sorry for what transpired, Your Excellency. We feel your pain and concerns from beginning to end.

“Insha Allah, it will come to pass, and people will return to their normal lives and businesses as if it never happened, because we, along with you, will ensure that we provide all the necessary palliatives for them to regain their means of livelihood.” Thank you, Your Excellency; please convey our sincere concerns to the Governor and the people of Borno State,” he said.
