Edo Guber polls:PDP promises to safeguard democracy, warns against rigging.
At Saturday’s Edo State governorship campaign finale, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) issued a strong warning against efforts to undermine democracy in Nigeria.
Adamawa State’s Governor Fintiri, who also serves as the party’s national campaign council chairman, reportedly promised Edo residents that the upcoming September 21 election will be held in a fair and transparent manner, according to the chief press secretary to the governor, Humwashi Wonosoiku.
He emphasised that the PDP will not budge or be intimidated; they will not accept anything less. He insisted that the required steps must be taken because Edo is the cradle of civilisation and intellectualism.
In his role as acting National Chairman, Illiya Damagum promised that the party would fight any effort to manipulate the election and preserve its votes.
His main point was that the INEC shouldn’t announce election results at 3 o’clock in the morning.
A former presidential contender in the previous election, Atiku Abubakar, urged the people to vote and to safeguard and defend their ballots against manipulation. In the run-up to the election, PDP members in Edo allegedly faced threats and arrests.
