INEC rejects Abure as Labour Party’s National Chairman.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to recognise Julius Abure as the Labour Party’s National Chairman, despite keeping his name on its website’s list of political party chairs.

The Labour Party filed a counter-affidavit in the Federal High Court Abuja, challenging its omission from INEC’s refresher training for uploading party agents ahead of the Edo and Ondo state governorship elections, which included this startling discovery.

INEC insisted in the paper that Abure’s tenure as Labour Party National Chairman would expire in June 2024.

Since June of this year, the Labour Party’s congress in Anambra State has prolonged the duration of the Julius Abure-led leadership.

Many members of the party have questioned the outcome of that congress, including former deputy chairman Callistus Okafor, Abia State governor Alex Otti, and 2023 presidential contender Peter Obi, who recently called a national congress to try to resolve the impasse.
