Wike shows no regrets for opposing PDP in 2023 presidential election.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared on Tuesday that he had no regrets about opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike denied engaging in anti-party activities by refusing to support Atiku Abubakar, the then-PDP presidential candidate.

He rationalised his decision by claiming that justice and fairness were driving forces behind it.

“For the presidential election, I pledged to support equity, fairness, and justice. According to Wike, in the previous election, I committed to help my party, which is why we won the governor and National Assembly elections.

“As a presidential candidate, I hold no apologies, as I do not believe in injustice.” “I did not engage in anti-party activities,” Wike told reporters.

In the run-up to the 2023 general elections, Wike, then governor of Rivers State, banded together with four other dissatisfied PDP governors, namely Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), to oppose Atiku’s candidature.

The five governors have repeatedly asked that Senator Iyorchia Ayu resign as PDP national chairman as a condition for their endorsement of Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.

Atiku later lost the presidential election to Bola Tinubu, the then-candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in whose cabinet he currently serves as a minister.
