Computer-based WASSCE “Starts Friday,” says WAEC.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that on October 25, 2024, it would begin its Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CBWASSCE) for private students.
According to a statement released on Tuesday, the examination organisation expects the exercise to extend until December 20, 2024.
“The examination will adopt the hybrid mode of delivering the examination, which implies that the objective or multiple-choice questions would be rendered onscreen and candidates would be required to give their responses on the screen, while the essay and practical questions will be rendered on-screen, likewise, but candidates would have to give their responses using the answer booklets provided,” according to a spokesperson for the WAEC, Adesina Fa
The examination diet now allows candidates to employ paper and pen mode for all examination papers.
The Council has extended the registration deadline for all candidates until Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
“Similarly, the ‘Walk-in-Candidate’ opportunity (for candidates who register 24 hours before the particular paper of their choice is due to be taken) will be open at the end of the registration,” according to the agency.

An official from WAEC, Adesina Fadekemi, stated that the test will be administered in a hybrid format. This means that the objective or multiple-choice questions will be shown on the screen and candidates will be asked to answer them digitally. On the other hand, the essay and practical questions will also be shown on the screen, but candidates will still be given answer booklets to use.
Candidate preference for paper-and-pencil mode for all examination papers is now an option thanks to the examination diet.
To ensure that all prospective candidates have enough time to register, the Council has extended the deadline to Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
“At the end of the registration, the ‘Walk-in-Candidate’ opportunity will be open,” the body announced. This will allow candidates to show up for their chosen exam up to 24 hours before it’s scheduled to be administered.
