Tinubu, FEC Scraps Niger Delta and Sports Development Ministries
President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) abolished the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sport Development.
Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser for Information and Strategy, announced the decisions from Wednesday’s FEC meeting in Abuja on his X handle.
There will now be a Ministry of Regional Development to manage all Regional Development Commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, the North West Development Commission, the South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission.
The National Sports Commission will take over the duties of the Ministry of Sports.
The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
Despite the announcement, Onanuga did not specify what would happen to the ministers in charge of the disbanded ministries or how they would function in the future.
Abubakar Momoh leads the Niger Delta Ministry, while John Enoh is in charge of the Ministry of Sports Development.
The development comes after recent calls to lower the country’s number of ministries and political officers in order to cut governance expenditures.
