Kano Government Urges Authorities to Obey Appeal Court’s Ruling on Emirate Council Dispute
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, reversed earlier Federal High Court verdicts and maintained the validity of the Kano State Government’s acts concerning chieftaincy appointments and the restructuring of the state’s traditional institutions.
The Kano State Government has urged all relevant agencies, institutions, and individuals to completely comply with the recent Court of Appeal decision, which settled the long-running controversy over Emirate Council changes.
A delegation of top government officials, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ibrahim Adamu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Bello; and the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Halima Yusuf, spoke at a press conference on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano, emphasising the importance of strict adherence to the ruling.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, reversed earlier Federal High Court verdicts and maintained the validity of the Kano State Government’s acts concerning chieftaincy appointments and the restructuring of the state’s traditional institutions.
“All decisions, pronouncements, and orders made by the Federal High Court in this matter have been quashed and set aside,” Hon. Ibrahim Adamu remarked. “The appellate court has upheld the law enacted by the Kano State House of Assembly and fully legalised all actions taken by the governor pursuant to that law.”
The administration emphasised that the decision not only endorses its reforms, but it also establishes a precedent for upholding constitutional bounds in chieftaincy concerns.
“We call on all relevant authorities and stakeholders to respect this judgement and act accordingly,” Musa Bello, the honourable senator, said. “It is essential to give full effect to the ruling to maintain peace, harmony, and the rule of law in our beloved state.”
The administration also reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging unity and development in Kano, emphasising the necessity of collaboration among all stakeholders.
“This is a victory for justice and fairness,” Hon. Halima Yusuf stated. “We urge everyone to work with the government to ensure that the reforms achieve their intended goals of equitable representation and inclusive governance across all emirates.”
The administration utilised the opportunity to reassure locals that it is willing to collaborate closely with traditional institutions to maintain Kano’s unique legacy while promoting modernisation and development.
“This judgement marks a turning point in our efforts to harmonise tradition and progress,” the commissioners stated. “Let us all prioritise the collective good of Kano State and move forward in unity.”
As the dust settles, the Kano State Government reiterated its call for peace and respect for the rule of law, urging all parties to accept the decision and contribute to the state’s stability and progress.
