Tinubu condemns the latest attack in Plateau, says ‘enough is enough’.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep grief over the recent massacre in Plateau State, which has cost the lives of more than 40 people.

He strongly condemned the violence and expressed his sympathy to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the state government, and the Plateau people, encouraging him to summon the political will to end the situation and establish lasting peace.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, issued a statement on Monday.

Onanuga said that in his call for Plateau State cohesion, President Tinubu underlined the need of love and togetherness across religious and ethnic boundaries.

Tinubu urged community, spiritual, and political leaders within and beyond the state to band together and cease the cycle of retaliatory attacks that have made life unpleasant for affected people.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” says Tinubu.

“I have directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts.” We cannot let the devastation and frequent attacks to continue. Enough is enough.

“Beyond dealing with the criminal forces behind these ongoing killings, Plateau State’s government leadership, led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, must address the underlying source of this age-old problem.

“These issues have been with us for almost two decades. We can no longer overlook the underlying problems. It is time to tackle them fairly and find a long-term solution. I’ve discussed these issues with the governor over time and proposed solutions for long-term peace.

“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting Governor Mutfwang and the Plateau State government in promoting dialogue, fostering social cohesion, and ensuring accountability—crucial steps towards permanently resolving the conflict in Plateau.”

The death toll from Monday’s attack on the Zike hamlet, Kimakpa, Kwall district, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, has risen to 51, with several houses destroyed.

According to Wakili Tongwe, a Kwall community leader, the attackers stormed the village in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically at inhabitants fleeing for cover after hearing gunfire.
