EFCC Arrests Socialite E-Money for Alleged Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested socialite E-Money for alleged money laundering.

The anti-graft agency detained E-Money, actual name Emeka Okonkwo, in the Omole area of Lagos State.

E-money has now been brought into custody by the EFCC in Abuja.

He allegedly sprayed US dollar bills and naira coins during a public function. However, the specifics of the occurrence remain unknown at this time.

The CEO of Emmy Cargoes Nigeria Limited and Five Star Music allegedly breached Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act.

However, at the time this article was published, the EFCC had yet to issue an official statement regarding his arrest.

The arrest is the latest in the EFCC’s assault on naira abuse. Singer Terry Apala was recently remanded for allegedly abusing the country’s currencies.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has detained another socialite, Aisha Achimugu. She was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Achimugu was apprehended about 5 a.m. on Tuesday, shortly after her return from London.

The anti-graft bureau proclaimed her sought in March for alleged criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Achimugu’s lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), confirmed her detention, stating, “Aisha Achimugu, who arrived voluntarily into the country from London, was arrested by the EFCC around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.”

Ojukwu questioned the EFCC’s move, calling it a violation of a court order.

“In light of what transpired in court on Monday, my client returned based on the undertaking before the court to honour the EFCC’s invitation, but he was arrested at the airport,” Ojukwu claimed.

He revealed that Achimugu had started a hunger strike to protest what he called a violation of her fundamental rights.

“She is a prisoner of conscience,” the lawyer explained.

The arrest comes one day after Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered her to appear before the EFCC and the court.
