Court Orders EFCC To Release Aisha Achimugu Within 24 Hours

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to free socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.

Justice Ekwo also directed that the parties report back to the court on May 2nd regarding the outcome of his order.

On Monday, Justice Ekwo ordered Achimugu to turn herself in to the anti-graft agency as part of an ongoing investigation into money laundering and other crimes.

Justice Ekwo also ruled that after her presence at the EFCC headquarters, the anti-graft agency must return and appear before the court with her on Wednesday, April 30, for a report.

The EFCC detained Achimugu at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The EFCC is looking into Achimugu’s involvement in a conspiracy, getting money under false pretences, money laundering, corruption, and ownership of property that is reasonably suspected of being gained illegally.

The EFCC had previously arrested and questioned her, but the agency freed her on administrative bail.

However, the EFCC claimed that she jumped bail and declared Achimugu wanted.
