Kano Judiciary Demotes Registrar,Retires Senior Official Due to Misconduct

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has implemented firm disciplinary measures against judicial officers who have been found guilty of misconduct, which includes the demotion of a court registrar and the mandatory retirement of a senior registrar.

A statement from Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, the spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, indicated that the decisions were reached during the JSC’s 82nd meeting on Wednesday.

The commission’s actions were initiated based on the adoption of recommendations from the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC), which conducted an investigation into various allegations, as stated by Jibo-Ibrahim.
“Court Registrar Salisu Sule was demoted by one grade level following the JPCC’s findings of substantial evidence regarding misconduct in four distinct complaints related to insults, intimidation, and abuse of office,” Jibo-Ibrahim stated.

He stated that Sule had received a warning letter on December 19, 2024, yet his ongoing misconduct led the commission to enforce a stricter penalty.

“The investigation disclosed that Sule repeatedly employed the judiciary’s name to harass and intimidate the public during the execution of his responsibilities,” he clarified.

Senior registrar has retired following a forgery incident.
The JSC has mandated the compulsory retirement of Ahmad Aliyu Danmaraya, a Principal Registrar at the High Court Headquarters in Kano, due to instances of gross misconduct.

“The JPCC determined that Danmaraya was guilty of forging an affidavit, affixing the High Court stamp and seal, and inscribing a fraudulent receipt number, fully aware that he is not a commissioner for oaths,” stated Jibo-Ibrahim.

Magistrates have been reinstated.
The Commission has made a decision to reinstate two magistrates, Chief Magistrate Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti and Chief Magistrate Rabi Abdulkadir, who were previously suspended.

“Following a thorough examination, the Commission has determined that Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti and Rabi Abdulkadir are to resume their positions and continue with their judicial responsibilities,” Jibo-Ibrahim announced.

He, however, emphasised that both magistrates were “admonished to uphold the highest standards of integrity, diligence, and excellence in the discharge of their judicial functions.”

The disciplinary actions demonstrate the Commission’s dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability within the state judiciary.

“These decisions reflect the Commission’s continuous commitment to uphold discipline and integrity within the judicial system of Kano State,” Jibo-Ibrahim concluded.
