Ignore distractions from others, Tinubu advises Wike.
President Bola Tinubu has counseled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to avoid distractions from critics and focus on his mission to improve the nation’s capital.
Tinubu announced this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the rehabilitated and refurbished International Conference Centre in Abuja, which has been renamed in his honor as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The President stated that the renovated international conference center represents his administration’s commitment to transforming our practices, showcasing us as individuals of quality, character, determination, and outstanding spirit—that is our identity.
“I am pleased to see that you are engaging in reflection, Nyesom Wike.” It is advisable to disregard the opinions of those who are not directly involved and focus on your own path. Maintain your excellent efforts. You exemplify the qualities of a transformational leader. “You possess the vision, foresight, and determination necessary for success,” Tinubu stated.
The President stated that his administration recognized the importance of modern infrastructure as a fundamental element of economic prosperity.
He stated, “Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are committed to revitalizing the infrastructure and other critical sectors of this country, including transportation, healthcare, education, energy, and urban development.”
“We recognize that contemporary infrastructure serves as the foundation for a flourishing economy within an inclusive and forward-thinking society.”
Tinubu emphasised that the rehabilitated conference center symbolizes Nigeria’s dedication to regional diplomacy, continental trade discussions, global partnerships, and various well-defined objectives that prioritize our national interests.
The president also communicated to his political associates, appointees, and government officials that complimentary access to the conference center for social or corporate events would not be permitted.
It is essential to adhere to the directives provided by the landlord. “If you wish to utilize this venue, you will be required to pay for it,” Tinubu remarked, referencing the earlier statement made by the FCT minister regarding the fees associated with the use of the halls in the conference centre. The event was attended by notable figures including the FCT Minister Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Ministers Wale Edun (Finance and Economy) and Lateef Fagbemi (Justice), among others.
Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a two-time governor of Rivers State, joined the cabinet of the president, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in August 2023.
In addition to Wike, another opposition member who joined the APC government cabinet in October 2024 was Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, despite her affiliation with the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
