PDP crisis not about Atiku alone, it’s an ego battle — Gov Lawal
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) crisis is fuelled by the egos of all party members, and that Atiku is not solely to blame.
Lawal, who spoke to journalists on Wednesday in Zamfara, said the PDP issue extends beyond Atiku, the party’s presidential candidate in 2023.
“Everybody has their own issue; it’s not just about Atiku Abubakar; it’s beyond him,” he stated.
“It’s an internal issue within the PDP, and we’re making a concerted effort. “I believe it’s about people’s egos—everyone, no exception.”
Many PDP members have accused President Bola Tinubu of being the mastermind behind their party’s crisis.
Governor Lawal, who did not exonerate himself, believes that all PDP members share responsibility for the crisis.
When asked if he was contributing to the party’s ego-driven quarrel, he replied, “Yes.”
Speaking about Nigeria’s electoral process, the governor expressed confidence that free and fair elections are still achievable despite systemic issues, citing himself as an example of electoral justice.
“I will say yes because I experienced it in Zamfara State—with all of the powerful people that can turn things around, with the might of the Federal Government and everything.”
“Yes, the election will still be free and fair. That is why I got elected as the governor of Zamfara State. I served as Zamfara State’s first elected PDP governor. So, it was a free and fair election, and I believe it will continue. “It’s a matter of time,” he stated.
