No Threat against Tinubu in 2027 – Gov. Sani

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has stated that, contrary to popular belief, the reported establishment of a coalition party poses no threat to President Bola Tinubu.

He also stated that it did not indicate that trouble was brewing for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“I can tell you today, but you should write it down and remember it. “Asiwaju has no threat,” the governor declared in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, in response to the creation of the National Opposition Coalition Group, which is chaired by former Senate President David Mark.

Speaking further, he stated that the majority of coalition supporters were unaware of the work of Nigerian activists who advocated for democracy and decent government.

Sani stated, “Most of the folks speaking tonight were in the trenches fighting for democracy, justice, good government, and the rule of law. They knew nothing about it.

“When we fought for our chieftain, Chief Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory. Do you know what happened? We were not battling for power. We were battling for democracy and good government in Nigeria.

“That is why, when Abdulsalami Abubakar began his transition, and he insisted on registering all two political parties — the Alliance for Democracy, the APP, and the PDP — we went with our team, and our leader at the time, (the late) Chief Gani Fawehinmi, told us we would not participate in that election, and we looked at him and said, ‘Why?'”

“He added that because the war was not finished, we must continue to fight for the extension of Nigeria’s democratic space, which is why some of us, including my humble self, sued INEC. So when I heard about registration denials or whatever, I was astonished. “Where were they?”

The governor emphasised that his and others’ pro-democracy actions resulted in the extension of political space and the formation of a multi-party system.

He continued, “So, Nigerians are really bright. They’re highly intelligent. They have been watching the course of political events in Nigeria. When you say, ‘I can alter things,’ they will look at you and say, ‘What did you do five years ago? What were you doing six years ago? Were you not in power? “Why are we still having this problem?”

The Kaduna governor also stated that he was not frightened of resistance due to the performance of his administration in the state.

Sani replied, “I am not frightened of anything. I will explain why I am not afraid of anything. When people talk about the North versus Asiwaju, or the North versus this, I only hope we have more time; I will provide you with statistics.

“Let me give you an example from 2023: Kaduna. It’s possible that this is true in many states. I examined the poverty index in Kaduna’s 23 local government areas. I looked at the Kaduna poverty index; 17 of the 23 local governments had poverty rates of around 70%. That was the stats as of 2023.

“So, what have I done? The first thing I did was sign an executive order promoting financial inclusion. Today, we have returned 2.5 million of our vulnerable, underserved, and underprivileged citizens, the majority of whom live in rural areas, to the financial services industry.

“We opened accounts for them and provided them with social assistance. Now they can save and borrow. They can market their businesses.”
