Tinubu to visit Saint Lucia, attend BRICS Summit in Brazil.
President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for a two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil, according to his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, the president would first pay a state visit to Saint Lucia in order to strengthen Nigeria’s ties with the Caribbean.
Tinubu would then proceed to Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, which would take place in Rio de Janeiro on July 6 and 7, 2025.
He would attend the BRICS Summit on the basis of Nigeria’s status as a ‘partner country’. South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia are African members of the BRICS.
The 17th BRICS Summit will concentrate on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”. The discussions will focus on two essential issues: global South collaboration and BRICS alliances for social, economic, and environmental development.
“A key highlight of the visit will be President Tinubu’s address to the special joint session of the Senate and the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet,” according to a statement released by the presidential spokesman.
“The Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Nigerian community in the country, and the Director-General of the OECS, Dr Didacus Jules, have been invited to the special session.
“President Tinubu will hold a high-level working luncheon with the Heads of Government of OECS after the joint session of the Parliament of Saint Lucia.”
According to the president’s itinerary, he will visit Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to develop educational links and foster intellectual exchange.
Senior government officials will accompany President Tinubu to both visits.
