Tinubu’s Administration Saved Nigeria From Dangerous Crossroads – Ribadu
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, warned the country was at a critical crossroads in 2022, with several problems threatening its unity, stability, and future until President Bola Tinubu took office in 2023.
Speaking in Abuja during the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 18 Regular Course, Ribadu described the situation as terrible, with security concerns spanning the entire country.
He stated that the issues extended across the country, from the insurgency-ravaged Northeastto the violence-plagued Northwest, the restive Niger Delta, and separatist agitations in the Southeast.
The NSA emphasised the Tinubu administration’s commitment to tackling what he described as “inherited, intractable security challenges.”
According to him, “bold strides” have been made in restoring security and national confidence throughout the country.
He said that the government’s counterinsurgency efforts have resulted in the capture of over 13,500 terrorists and criminals, while over 124,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and their families have surrendered.
Ribadu also advocated for the active participation of military veterans in the ongoing fight against insecurity, highlighting the importance of their expertise and knowledge in dealing with complex threats.
Also addressing at the ceremony, retired Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, the 22nd Chief of Army Staff, advocated for complete military training for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members as a strategic move to strengthen the battle against insurgency and other security challenges.
