Army, DSS Dismantle Gunrunning Syndicate in Taraba, Recover Arms Cache

In a coordinated operation, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), have apprehended a suspected high-profile arms trafficker in Taraba State.

The arrest took place near Ambassador Roundabout in Wukari Local Government Area and led to the capture of 29-year-old Bulyami Shuaib, a native of Belango Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

Umar Muhammad, the Public Relations Officer of the 6 Brigade, stated in a press release that Shuaib is believed to be a major figure in the illicit arms trade network operating within the region.

Items recovered from the suspect include:

  • 362 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

  • 1 round of 7.62mm NATO ammunition

  • ₦842,100 in cash

  • One black Jing Cheng motorcycle

  • One Redmi Android phone and one itel phone

  • Two silver rings

  • One First Bank ATM card

The suspect is currently in custody and has been providing valuable intelligence to assist ongoing investigations and future security operations.

Commending the troops on the success of the mission, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment—alongside other security agencies—to eradicating criminal elements threatening peace and stability in Taraba State.

He also called on the public to continue supporting security efforts by sharing timely and credible information that could help sustain peace across the state.
