Governor Sule Distributes 100 Electric Vehicles to Empower Indigent Youths in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has distributed 50 electric cars and 50 electric tricycles to 100 indigent youths across the state in a move to promote economic empowerment and environmental sustainability,

Speaking at the distribution event held on Thursday in Lafia, the governor said the initiative is designed to help beneficiaries establish transport-related businesses, thereby reducing unemployment.

“These vehicles run on electricity rather than petrol or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG),” Sule explained. He added that a charging station has already been established at the newly completed state secretariat in Lafia.

“We also plan to build one charging centre each in Akwanga and Keffi Local Government Areas to serve the Nasarawa North and West Senatorial Districts, respectively,” the governor announced, assuring that more centres would be set up across other local government areas in the near future.

According to Governor Sule, the first batch of electric vehicles will be deployed in Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi, where they will be used to transport civil servants to and from their workplaces. This is part of broader efforts to ease the current economic burden on residents.

Additionally, the vehicles will serve tertiary institutions in the three cities, including the Federal University of Lafia, College of Education Akwanga, and the State University in Keffi.

“All the cars and tricycles are air-conditioned and can operate for a full day once fully charged,” Sule noted, expressing optimism that the initiative would not only improve livelihoods but also contribute to a cleaner environment.

The Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, Retired Justice Muhammad Sidi Bage, commended the governor for the initiative. He encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the vehicles to help lower local transportation costs and provide relief to the general public.

The emir also pledged the continued support of traditional rulers for government policies and programs, emphasizing that royal fathers would remain non-partisan while offering prayers and blessings for all political candidates, regardless of party affiliation.
