SGF Invites Council of State, Police Council to Security Meeting

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, has invited members of the Council of State and the Police Council to a high-level strategic meeting on national security.

According to a statement issued Monday, Oct. 3, 2025, by the director of information and public relations in the SGF’s office, Segun Imohiosen, the meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at the Council Chambers, Aso Villa, Abuja. It will be held in a hybrid format, allowing both physical and virtual participation.

The permanent secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Umobong, said the sessions will focus on matters of national importance and key issues affecting security and policing in Nigeria.

The Council of State meeting will begin at 1 p.m., while the Police Council session will follow at 2 p.m.

The statement said the meetings reflect President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to addressing national security challenges and ensuring the safety of citizens.

The Council of State, chaired by the president, includes former presidents, former heads of state, former chief justices of Nigeria, state governors and the attorney general of the federation. It advises the president on major policy issues.

The Police Council oversees the organization, administration and management of the Nigeria Police Force, including appointments, promotions and discipline of senior officers.

The meetings come amid growing public concern over insecurity and calls for comprehensive reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture.
