UNN Manipulating Minister Nnaji’s Academic Files, Spokesman Alleges

The spokesperson for the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has accused the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), of tampering with and manipulating the minister’s academic records.

The allegation follows claims of certificate forgery leveled against Nnaji in 2023 after his political appointment.

During a court session on Monday before Justice Hauwa Yilwa of the Federal High Court, Nnaji said the university had withheld his academic transcript despite his graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry (Second Class Honours, Lower Division) in 1985.

Nnaji’s spokesman, Reuben Ugwu, alleged that UNN officials were “playing politics” with the minister’s academic files.

“He didn’t ask the institution not to touch his records. He said they should not tamper or manipulate them,” Ugwu stated. “There was information that personal student files were being leaked online, which suggests someone is deliberately doing that.”

Ugwu further claimed that political influence within the university was affecting the handling of Nnaji’s records.

“You have an Acting VC who is a card-carrying member of the PDP,” he alleged. “In Enugu, the PDP has maintained power for 26 years by discrediting and frustrating opposition voices.”

According to Ugwu, Nnaji applied and paid for his transcript in May, but the document has yet to be released.

He said the minister had sought and obtained a court injunction directing the university to stop tampering with his records and to release his transcript.

“The court granted those protections,” Ugwu said. “The supervising authorities were also urged to ensure proper oversight of these institutions.”
