Adamawa lawmaker kate mamuno wins top female legislator award
Kate Mamuno, the member representing Demsa Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has been honoured with the prestigious “Best Female Legislator of the Year 2025” award by the National Assembly Newspaper.
The recognition, announced at the newspaper’s annual legislative excellence awards ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, celebrates lawmakers across Nigeria who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, transparency, and commitment to their constituencies.
According to the organisers, Mamuno was selected for her exceptional contributions to grassroots development, women’s empowerment, and inclusive representation in the state legislature. The publication noted her consistency in sponsoring people-oriented motions and bills, as well as her efforts in promoting education and health initiatives within Demsa.
Accepting the award, Mamuno dedicated the honour to her constituents and described the recognition as a motivation to do even more. “This award is not just for me but for every woman in politics who believes in service, diligence, and integrity,” she said. “It shows that our work is being noticed and appreciated.”
She also commended her colleagues in the Adamawa State House of Assembly for their cooperation and urged more women to participate in governance, stressing that inclusive representation strengthens democracy.
Speaking at the event, the editor-in-chief of National Assembly Newspaper, Musa Ibrahim, praised Mamuno’s “remarkable legislative record and exemplary service,” adding that her leadership style has made a lasting impact in her community.
The award ceremony was attended by lawmakers, civil society representatives, and political leaders from across the country. Many hailed Mamuno as a role model for young women aspiring to leadership positions.
Observers say her recognition further cements her reputation as one of the most active and respected female lawmakers in northern Nigeria.
