Lagos launches free statewide HIV testing ahead of world aids day

The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) has rolled out a major initiative offering free HIV testing across all Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas from 18th November to 1st December 2025.

The move is part of events marking the 2025 World AIDS Day and reflects LSACA’s commitment to broadening access to HIV testing, promoting early diagnosis, and linking patients to care.

The agency announced the statewide testing on its X page, highlighting its efforts to bridge existing testing gaps and boost public awareness around HIV prevention and stigma. Trained counsellors, testing kits, condoms, and educational materials have been deployed to ensure a smooth operation.

LSACA’s CEO, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, stressed the importance of timely HIV testing, saying: “As we approach the 2025 World AIDS Day, our priority is to ensure that every resident of Lagos has the opportunity to know their HIV status in a safe, confidential, and accessible manner. Testing remains the gateway to prevention and treatment.”

She added that the agency is working with development partners and community organisations to reach even the most remote communities. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the free, confidential testing at designated points across the state.

The initiative underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving health services. Animashaun also revealed ongoing efforts to expand HIV testing centres and scale up public awareness campaigns, aiming to prevent new infections and support treatment for those living with HIV.

Residents are urged to participate in the exercise, with LSACA emphasising that knowing one’s status is key to achieving an HIV-free generation.

Established to lead the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state, LSACA coordinates efforts with government agencies, development partners, and civil society to reduce infections and improve the lives of those affected.
