Osun governor Adeleke quits PDP amid national leadership crisis
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform that propelled him from the Senate to the state’s top job.
Adeleke announced his resignation late on Monday in a post on his official X handle, attaching a letter dated November 4 and addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North.
In the letter, the governor blamed what he called the “current crisis” rocking the party’s national leadership, saying he was leaving the PDP with immediate effect.
He thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to serve as senator between 2017 and 2019 and later as governor, a position he has held since November 2022 after defeating then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola.
The ward chairman acknowledged receiving the resignation letter on November 4. Adeleke, however, gave no hint about his next political home, a development that has set off intense speculation across Osun’s political circles.
His exit marks a major shift in the state’s political landscape and raises fresh questions about his plans ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
