NEC okays ₦100bn to overhaul police training schools
The National Economic Council has approved ₦100 billion — pending President Bola Tinubu’s final sign-off — for the rehabilitation of training institutions for the police and other security agencies across Nigeria.
The approval follows recommendations by an ad-hoc committee set up to assess the state of security training facilities nationwide.
During its 154th meeting held virtually on Wednesday and chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, NEC also signed off ₦2.6 billion for consultancy services on the project.
President Tinubu had earlier proposed a complete overhaul of security training institutions during the 152nd NEC meeting in October.
Presenting the committee’s findings, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State warned that many of the facilities were in deplorable condition and required urgent intervention.
Reacting to the report, Vice President Shettima reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fixing the institutions and charged state governors to ensure economic reforms translate into measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.
He stressed that governance must be felt in real terms, not in speeches, urging all tiers of government to prioritise delivery over rhetoric.
“Our task is not to admire problems, but to solve them. Not to explain challenges, but to overcome them,” he said, adding that reforms must become tangible results experienced in markets, schools, clinics and farms nationwide.
