Former Katsina governor named to lead APC convention committee after reshuffle
Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reconstituted the leadership of its 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, appointing a former state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, as chairman.
Masari, who previously served as governor of Katsina state in north-west Nigeria, replaces Imo state governor Hope Uzodimma, who has been reassigned to the position of treasurer of the committee.
The party also expanded the size of the committee from 73 to 90 members, a move it said was intended to accommodate a broader range of party stakeholders ahead of the national convention, a key event at which party leadership and policy direction are often determined.
Newly added members include Senator Barry Mpigi and several other senior figures within the APC.
In a statement, the party said the changes formed part of a revised composition of the convention planning body and were guided by zoning considerations — an informal power-sharing arrangement designed to balance political influence among Nigeria’s regions — as well as other strategic factors.
The reconstitution comes as the APC prepares for its 2026 national convention amid internal realignments and efforts to consolidate party unity ahead of future elections.
