Trump’s Genocide Claim Against Tinubu Government Exposes US Intelligence Failure – NOA Boss
Nigeria’s National Orientation Agency Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has hit back at Donald Trump’s explosive accusation that President Bola Tinubu’s government is committing genocide, describing it as proof that America’s intelligence network has once again failed.
Speaking at the National Joint Security press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Issa-Onilu said the former US President’s allegation was “another embarrassing blunder” by the American intelligence community, comparing it to their past errors in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan.
“This is not the first time the intelligence of the United States failed Americans,” he said. “It failed in Iraq — it turned out there were no weapons of mass destruction — and they apologised. It failed in Libya and many other instances. This is clearly another intelligence failure.”
The NOA boss admitted that while there have been killings in Nigeria that “should never happen,” Trump’s sweeping accusation of genocide was completely unfounded and politically motivated.
His remarks come after Trump, in a fiery post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, claimed he had asked the Pentagon to prepare a possible plan of attack in Nigeria, declaring that Christianity faced an “existential threat” in Africa’s most populous country.
“If Nigeria doesn’t stop the killings, we will attack — and it will be fast, vicious and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians,” Trump warned.
Despite the Nigerian presidency’s offer to hold talks to resolve the issue, Trump doubled down on Sunday, saying he was still considering “a lot of things” — including the possibility of airstrikes or ground troops.
“They’re killing Christians in very large numbers. We’re not going to allow that to happen,” he insisted.
