Gunmen kill vice principal, abduct 25 schoolgirls in shocking kebbi raid
The Federal Government has condemned the horrific attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where armed men shot dead the Vice-Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and abducted 25 female students.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the school late on Sunday night, operating without resistance and plunging the community into fear and chaos. Witnesses described the gunmen as “ruthless”, saying they moved swiftly, targeting the school’s staff before rounding up terrified pupils.
A statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Tinubu has directed security and intelligence agencies to launch an urgent operation to rescue the girls and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty,” the statement said. “Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice.”
The government expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and reiterated its commitment to protecting all Nigerians, especially schoolchildren. Officials confirmed that efforts are underway to strengthen internal security and enhance cooperation with regional bodies including ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force.
Authorities have urged the public to stay calm as security operations intensify across the region. The attack has once again highlighted the persistent threat of armed banditry and terrorism in northern Nigeria.
